As a second year student at K, there is a host of programs and experiences designed to help you navigate your way to the exciting and important guideposts that await you this year: choosing your major, thinking about minor areas of study and concentrations, deciding whether to study abroad and where, and many others.
This website is designed to be your information hub as you think about these practicalities, and also to give you guidance as you think about some big questions that college sophomores often find themselves considering.
Take some time to browse the site and familiarize yourself with its resources, and feel welcome to contact Dr. Chuck Stull, the Sophomore Class Dean, or Ms. Dana Jansma, Senior Associate Dean of Students, at any time you have a question or would like more information.
2021 Sophomore Declaration of Major (DOM)
This year, DOM will be February 3, 2021. Like many other activities, DOM has been reconfigured due to the pandemic.
Majors will be declared online using the Declaration of Major Form.
Sophomores who declare by February 3rd will be eligible to win prizes. The top prize is one $100 K College Bookstore gift card. There will be other prizes– five $50 gift cards and ten $25 gift cards to the bookstore. Winners will be selected at random. You can complete the form anytime between now and the 3rd to be entered in the drawing.
Several departments plan information sessions for potential majors. Keep your eyes posted for announcements from Departments! In addition to information sessions that many departments will be having, if you have additional questions, please reach out to Departmental Student Advisors for a student point of view.
If you would like to switch to an advisor in your newly declared major, you can do so easily through the new online Change of Advisor form. Having an advisor in the major is strongly encouraged, but not required. Note that changes will not be processed from weeks 5-8, so unless you change soon, you will still be meeting with your current advisor during winter Advising Days for spring registration. Forms turned in during weeks 5-8 will be held and processed during week 9.
